Read about the poverty measure report as we're still working on making it digital
Poverty Atlas 2026
Transforming static reports into an interactive, decision-making tool

The product
The Poverty Research Unit (PRU) produces the annual NYC Poverty Measure Report, a comprehensive analysis of poverty trends and anti-poverty efforts across New York City. While more accurate than the federal measure—accounting for cost of living, tax credits, and in-kind benefits—the report was historically published as a static PDF.
This limited its reach, usability, and timeliness.
I worked on the creation of a digital Poverty Dashboard designed to make this data more accessible, actionable, and impactful for a wide range of users—from policymakers to the general public.
The challenge
Despite the importance of the NYC Poverty Measure, its impact was constrained by how it was delivered.
Accessibility gap: Long-form PDFs were difficult to navigate and intimidating for non-technical audiences
Low engagement: Existing tools (data files, map/table maker) were underutilized
Delayed insights: Lengthy publishing cycles slowed access to critical data
Limited usability: Users couldn’t easily explore, customize, or export insights
